On successful completion of this programme the learner will be able to :

PO1Knowledge - Breadth
 (a)Has knowledge of the mathematical, statistical and operations management techniques necessary to analyse common engineering problems in the areas of energy and environmental technology; Has knowledge of the various communications media and skills commonly in used in industry; Has knowledge of the Information and Computer Technology (ICT) software and hardware tools used in a modern networked computer environment to support design of energy and environmental rlated systems; Has knowledge of the traditional and renewable energy technologies and assessment/auditing techniques to analyse energy needs in the context of global energy and environmental trends; Has knowledge of environmental technologies and energy and environmental regulations; Has knowledge of the fundamental theory of thermal plant and energy analysis necessary to understand problems in power generation, process heating, refigeration and heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; Has knowledge of the fundamental theory of electricity, electrical power systems and energy distribution systems; Has knowledge of the skills required to sucessfully undertake and manage a project.

 (a)Understand the basic concepts, advantages and limitations of core technologies relevant to both conventional and renewable energy systems; Understand the basic strategies and methodologies used in energy management, auditing and analysis; Have an upto date knowledge of current regulations and procedures used in the installation of renewable energy technologies; Know the characteristics of commonly occurring engineering materials and components and the characteristics of design methodologies.
PO3Skill - Range
 (a)Characterize, evaluate and optimize the performance of electrical and thermal energy systems; Undertake energy auditing and analysis of domestical, commercial and industrial systems and buildings; Prepare and present written and aural reports on energy and environmental topics to peers and customers; Prepare, modify and interpret mechanical and elecrical drawings and schematics; Undertake a technical and financial analysis of proposed energy schemes; Develop, implement and operate monitoring and targeting systems for the continuous improvement of energy performance in facilities; Characterisation of waste streams.

 (a)Select appropriate techniques for appraisal and analysis of mechanical and/or thermal/energy design concepts; Indicate the most appropriate control methods for a given energy system design; Selecting the most appropriate fuel for a given scenario based on economics, politics and the environmental impact; Select appropriate techniques for appraisal and analysis of Electrical design concepts; The application of industry standard software for a variety of problems; Applying methods to minimise the energy consumption for a variety of scenarios; Ability to contribute to the commercial management of operations
