Module Description:This module builds on the skills and knowledge gained by students in biochemistry at BSc (Ord) level. The objective is to give the student a clear understanding of the principles of antibody-based diagnostics. In addition, emphasis will be placed on new developments that enhance and broaden currently used diagnostic systems.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 A critical knowledge of the principles of antibody-based diagnostic systems
LO2 A comprehensive applied knowledge of the production and purification of antibodies
LO3 A competence in the critical analysis of data, assessing assay performance for the different types of assays studied
LO4 Understand the concepts of validation, quality control as applied antibody based analytical systems
LO5 Have demonstrated a wide, effective and critical reading of current relevant scientific literature and be conversant in the current trends and future possibilities for immunodiagnostics
