Module Description:This module introduces students to the basic technical, procedural and artistic skills of radio production, including studio based & location productions for both live and pre-recorded programme formats.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Discuss and demonstrate the codes and conventions of the radio medium.
LO2 Be proficient in basic studio operation techniques: Basic studio recording techniques and practice; live studio broadcast operations.
LO3 Competently practice basic location recording techniques.
LO4 Edit captured and pre existing audio into a standalone pre-record insert.
LO5 Research, script, present, edit and produce feature programming incorporating location interviews.
LO6 Demonstrate the value of content selection, timing and running orders.

Radio as a Medium
Develop knowledge and understanding as to how radio has developed as a medium over time, with an appreciation for its strengths and weakness leading to insight of how radio works best in engaging and entertaining the listener.

Equipment Operations
An introduction to the essential equipment used in studio and location productions and recordings, with emphasis on achieving competent technical and aesthetic operations for use with in-class productions.

Editing
Edit both originally captured and pre-existing audio through multitrack digital editing software, students will create short edited productions, emphasiing both technical proficiency and editorial choice.

An introduction into the roles involved in various radio programming formats, with practice of such roles in studio productions.
