Module Description:To provide a thorough grounding in the legal and ethical issues that impact on technology management, technology transfer and licensing. To address the potential for generating and managing intellectual property; ownership, licensing and assignment of intellectual property; the regulation of data, freedom of information and criminal law issues. To explore the issues to be addressed in licensing and joint-ventures involving technology transfer and collaborative research including competition (anti-trust) issues and criminal law issues.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the core legal and ethical issues that impact on technology management, technology transfer and licensing
LO2 Sufficiently understand the legal and ethical environment in technology management including intellectual property and competition law so as to facilitate research and development and engage in both licensing in and licensing out of Intellectual Property and to have an understanding of the pertinent competition (anti-trust) issues
LO3 Critically appreciate the legal environment applicable to research and development of projects in which intellectual property and anti-trust issues are present
LO4 Critically evaluate the intellectual property content in any project
LO5 Independently acquire and assess information relating to intellectual property and anti-trust law
LO6 Sufficiently understand anti-trust issues so as to evaluate the circumstances in which there is a need to acquire expert advice
