Module Description:The module aims to provide the student with the theoretical and practical fundamentals of the technology in biopharmaceutical production. The modules focuses on providing an understanding of how proteins are made and how they can be geneticaly engineered, and on key ares of the immune system. these biological sustems are then applied to upstream processes of biopharmaceutical production. The module also aims to provide the student with the theoretical and practical fundamentals of protein structure, isolation and purification.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of protein chemistry
LO2 Separate cells used for production of proteins and partially purify the protein produced
LO3 Interpret the significance of Biotechnology on Biophamaceutical production
LO4 Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of therapeutic agents of microbial origin and their production
LO5 Demonstrate a knowledge of cell culture systems to express therapeutic proteins and optimise the requirements for their industrial scale production
