Module Description:This module aims to provide students with a systematic understanding of a wide range of current and state-of-the-art WAN technologies, both point-to-point and packet- switched; an ability to design, implement and manage a secure WAN, and an ability to design and implement an IPv6 based network.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Compare and contrast point-to-point and packet-switched technologies for implementing WANs
LO2 Design and implement WANs using both point-to-point and packet-switched protocols in conjunction with advanced network technologies such as VPNs and MPLS
LO3 Design and implement network traffic Firewall Security in conjuction with network hardware hardening.
LO4 Explain how traffic can be classified and managed with policies guaranteeing quality of service, priority queuing, congestion detection and avoidance.
LO5 Explain the structure and operation of IPv6, and design and implement an IPv6 network
LO6 Effectively manage a computer network using SNMP
