Module Description:The module aims to provide the student with a broad understanding of the various medical devices available for the treatment and prevention of disease. It covers their control and regulation, as well as their modes and methods of manufacture. It also aims to provide an overview of the medical device industry both globally and nationally.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Describe the medical device industry, the principle companies involved and their product ranges.
LO2 Describe the key principles associated with the control and regulation of the medical devices industry.
LO3 Describe specific manufacturing processes used in the manufacture of biomedical devices.
LO4 Identify the stages in the manufacturing of of polymer-based medical devices.
