Module Description:The purpose of this module is to prepare the students to work at a high level in industry with automation and control systems and to give students extensive hands on practice at implementing automation, control and monitoring of industrial processes. A laboratory programme will be followed which emphasises the main learning objectives of the course through assignments and mini projects.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Examine the issues (technical, safety, social and economic) and challenges of automation.
LO2 Analyse the components, efficiency and applications of an automated system.
LO3 Incorporate safety strategies in both the design and implementation of automated equipment.
LO4 Implement advanced PLC control.
LO5 Apply PLC interface systems and troubleshoot both hardware and software in a simulated industrial environment.
LO6 Function independently, and within a team, to design, build, problem solve and verify integrated automation solutions.
