Module Description:This module is designed to provide the student with both a practical and theoretical understanding of the technical issues associated with designing, building and managing a private cloud infrastructure. The technologies reviewed will include virtualisation, distributed computing, cloud storage, security within the cloud in addition to reviewing a number of existing cloud infrastructures.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Describe the physical and virtual architecture of the cloud and to evaluate the implications of using Cloud-based services
LO2 Select and configure virtualisation operating systems and environments for specific business continuity strategies
LO3 Assess the architectures, components, operation and tools of cloud computing
LO4 Manage and control security, energy efficiency, redundancy & scalability issues within the cloud

Practical/Skills Evaluation CA2 - elapsed, individual - Typical task: Design, build, test and manage a private cloud infrastructure. Solution should employ best practices encompassing areas such as improved performance, security, resilience, storage etc. Assessed in terms of implemented functionality, solution quality and design as well as written report. 2,4 25.00 Week 8
