Module Description:The aim of this module is to facilitate the student in becoming competent in laboratory techniques associated with the related modules delivered in semester 4 of the bioanalysis programme (namely Scientific Analysis 2, Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biochemistry).
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Demonstrate the steps involved in developing and validating an analytical method.
LO2 Identify the basic components of spectroscopic measurement system.
LO3 Assess the microbiological quality of water, pharmaceutical samples and the manufacturing environment.
LO4 Demonstrate how microbiological media may be prepared and how media and other articles may be appropriately sterilised.
LO5 Investigate ways of controlling microorganisms, including the use of heat, antimicrobial agents and cleanrooms.
LO6 Extract and analyse bio-molecules and cell organelles using a range of extraction and analytical techniques
LO7 Calculate concentrations, convert units and logically interpret data based on an understanding of precision, accuracy, absolute vs. typical values, assay sensitivity and interference.
