Module Description:This subject provides the student with an introduction to Quality and Manufacturing Systems. The student will also gain practical experience in the use of various Quality and Manufacturing Systems techniques.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Define various quality related terms.
LO2 Select improvement tools appropriate to specific situations.
LO3 Develop a quality audit programme.
LO4 Apply a quality cost framework to a manufacturing function.
LO5 Describe the requirements of a quality / environmental management system.
LO6 Explain the characteristics, advantages/disadvantages of different types of manufacturing systems, plant layouts and material handling systems.
LO7 Explain the advantages/disadvantages of the different Capacity Management strategies and develop PC-based solutions for typical situations.
LO8 Use various tools to analyse and solve typical activity scheduling problems.
LO9 Carry out Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis on a project.
LO10 Use PC-based project planning packages.
LO11 Discuss the basic principles behind, and elements of, Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems and Lean Manufacturing Systems.
