Module Description:The aim of this module is to provide the student with an awareness of the theoretical and practical aspects of health and wellbeing in early years settings. Upon successful completion of the module, the student will have an understanding of the stages of physical development in the early years, including an overview of all aspects of prenatal care and development. The module will provide students with an understanding of common childhood illnesses and infections, including a practical approach to infection control.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Identify and consider the concept of health and wellbeing in relation to child health
LO2 Present the lifespan approach to children’s health
LO3 Describe the main illnesses affecting childhood and the appropriate treatment of childhood illnesses
LO4 Recognise signs of infection and the common causes of infection in childhood
LO5 Outline the importance of hygiene and infection control in early years settings
LO6 Present the key indicators to child wellbeing and recount national and international perspectives on child wellbeing
