Module Description:This module is a blend of both Scientific Communications and Student Project, with the skills acquired supporting the successful planning, execution and presentation of a laboratory-based project (over semesters 7 and 8). The skills developed will allow students to access and collate scientific information, develop scientific thought, project plan, and communicate effectively (both orally and in writing). Students will be required to prepare oral or poster presentations, prepare written reports and give critical appraisal on selected topics (e.g. emerging theories in the scientific literature).
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Research, present and defend written and oral presentations.
LO2 Preparing a critical analysis of a given topic, research paper, or set of experimental data.
LO3 Describe experimental data (drawn from actual practical work) in a concise, critical manner.
LO4 Plan a laboratory-based research project.
LO5 Prepare a literature review.
