Module Description:The aim of this module is to introduce the student to the fundamentals of organic chemistry.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Identify and draw the main organic functional groups in chemical compounds.
LO2 Draw and name simple organic structures using IUPAC nomenclature rules
LO3 Outline the chemical and physical properties of common classes of organics
LO4 Describe how to prepare, purify and identify simple organic molecules.
LO5 Draw the mechanisms, using curly arrows, of simple chemical reactions, showing intermediates and products formed.
