Module Description:This module aims to: To enable learners to understand and apply the principles of innovation and entrepreneurship. To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to set up and manage a new enterprise.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Explain and apply the theory and practice of innovation and entrepreneurship in enterprises, particularly within the computing industry
LO2 Identify sources for innovative opportunity and apply techniques for idea generation, idea selection and implementation with regard to new product development.
LO3 Demonstrate an understanding of how entrepreneurship should be managed in new technology-based firms.
LO4 Analyse a range of entrepreneurial strategies and select the most appropriate one for a given context.
LO5 Develop an effective business plan and discuss the issues involved in starting a new business.

Continuous Assessment Typical Task: The assessment will involve research into a particular area of computing, identifying patterns and trends with regard to innovation and the generation of a new product or service within that particular field of computing. The findings will be documented in a short report and students will be required to make a presentation to the class and participate in a question and answer session. The task will be assessed in terms of the level of knowledge and understanding of the particular research area and the overall approach taken to new product development. Each individual will be assessed on their particular contribution to the collaborative effort and their participation in the pre 2 25.00 Week 8
Assignment Task: Critical review of peer reviewed article in the field of Innovation and/or Enterprise. This task will assess the students ability to research a defined topic area. It will also measure the students ability to evaluate concepts and apply them to real world scenarios. It is envisaged that this task will be done in pairs to engender teamwork and cooperation. 4 25.00 Week 11
