Module Description:Within this programme, students will learn how to plan and facilitate drama, movement, art and music workshops to develop young children’s social, cognitive and language skills. Students will develop an appreciation of the importance of language in the growth of children’s understanding, and will explore literature written specifically for children. They will learn how to incorporate a diverse range of children’s books and other drama material and devices into effective session planning, delivery and evaluation. Connections will be made to Síolta and Aistear where relevant.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Assess the needs of a group of children in ECCE and design an appropriate creative session plan.
LO2 Generate appropriate activities that stimulate creativity, emergent literacy, maths and science activities in the early years.
LO3 Demonstrate specialised knowledge in creating appropriate ECCE session to develop young children’s social, cognitive, language and numeracy skills through creative activities
LO4 Evaluate techniques employed to ensure successful progression in the child’s social, cognitive and linguistic education.
LO5 Critique and share knowledge and experiences exposed in a group learning environment.
LO6 Exercise the ability to apply and adapt current policy and practice frameworks in an early year’s context in relation to appropriate planning and design.
