Module Description:This module aims to develop an awareness and understanding of the Irish legal system and areas of law within it by: Increasing understanding of basic legal principles. Enabling participants to understand the system for the administration of justice in Ireland. Introducing the student to various areas of law and their main features/relevance. Enabling students to understand the legal requirements under the Child Care (Pre-School Services) Regulations. Understand key child protection legislation and health and safety requirements.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Demonstrate an understanding of the system and jurisdiction of the Courts including procedure and evidence.
LO2 Understand the functions of various personnel working in the legal system
LO3 Demonstrate an understanding of the key features of each of the following legal areas and analyse their relevance in practice: Child Care (Pre-School Services) Regulations: Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and Rights Family Law, Law of Torts, Business Law, Employment Law
LO4 Understand the key requirements for health and safety and child protection legislation.
