Module Description:This module will provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills and techniques relating to the more advanced aspects of research. It will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of theoretical perspectives, research designs, methods, data analysis and resources relevant to Early Childhood Care and Education. The module will critically examine the main qualitative and quantitative research methodologies used in Early Childhood Care and Education and equip the learner with the skills to complete an academic research project. The module will also enable the student to engage in independent research and reflective practice. As research is an ongoing and dynamic subject, the syllabus content will be expanded or modified, as the case may be, to reflect developments within Early Childhood Care and Education research.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Develop a detailed knowledge of a chosen research topic in Early Childhood Care and Education; identify literature relevant to the research topic and produce a literature review for a research project.
LO2 Critically evaluate ethical issues within the students chosen research topic and critically evaluate these issues through ontological and epistemological perspectives.
LO3 Critically analyse a variety of research approaches, design a research project and begin the development of a research project on an identified research topic.
LO4 Describe and apply appropriate quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, structures and plans, in order to write up and present the research work.
