Module Description:The aim of this module is to impart the structures and vocabulary necessary to comprehend and communicate in German and to understand the socio-cultural environment of Germany (and other German-speaking countries).
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Converse in German on general topics
LO2 Read and understand selected articles and be able to answer questions thereon
LO3 Follow selected audio, film and video materials of a general nature and discuss the content
LO4 Discuss and write about a range of topics of general interest in German
LO5 Make a presentation about a researched topic
LO6 Hold a short telephone conversation. Write a brief fax/memo

Consolidate and build on language skills acquired in semesters 1&2
Introduce, practise and acquire additional grammatical structures in German
General development of reading, writing , oral and aural skills in relation to society, media and contemporary events
Aural comprehension enhanced through film studies and discussion thereon
Basic business language to include telephone skills, writing faxes, memos and communication skills for the workplace, making suggestions, interrupting, making points in a clear manner, expressions for agreeing and disagreeing
